Pair (2) Mid-Century Modern Brown-Saltman Gentlemans Chests, Eames-era vintage:

I am bringing several pieces to (please seemy Other Items), all of which have been in my family since purchased new. These mid-century modern furniture and art examples were collected by my father in the early 1960s, during that “sweet spot” in his life when he had work that paid well — and no children. All of these items were purchased in the Pacific Northwest; please feel free to make an offer on any of these items, and of course contact me to ask any questions you might have.

Here we have a gorgeous pair of Brown-Saltman gentleman’s chests that are as beautiful as they are functional. We believe the designer to have been John Keal, but the lucite drawers are identical to those used by Paul Laszlo in his chests; regardless, these are two amazing pieces, solid and working as well as the day they were bought. If anyone has the catalog, it appears the Brown-Saltman number might have been 2314.

Each chest is accessed via three magnet-closure panels on piano hinges, two of which are hinged together to open accordion-door-style. Recessed sculptural handles leave a very clean line but make it easy to open. Inside, on the left are three larger top compartments atop four wood drawers; on the right are ten clear lucite drawers.

These are very well-built, heavy chests that offer a huge amount of organized space with very attractive wood grain — and they’ve been well cared for (and will arrive to you empty of clothes and books, of course). This sale is for two pieces; the winning buyer gets the pair of chests together.
