Pair George III, Solid Silver Irish Dinner /Table Forks – Dublin 1814:
$149.41

Description:

This is a good quality pair of, rare, George III,solid silver dinner forks in the classic fiddle pattern design. There is nomonogram but there is a crest, to the back of the handle, of a bird of prey, with what I think is blood dripping from its beak.

Condition:

Apart from the usual fine surface marks and knifemarks to the back of the tines (far less than you might expect for forks ofthis age), they are in excellent condition for 202 years old, with no damage orrepairs that I can see.

Measurements:

They measure approximately: 20.1 cm long, 2 cm acrossthe tip of the tines and have a combined weight of 149 grams / 4.79 troy oz.

Hallmarks:

The hallmarks are: The date letter ‘S’ for 1814, withthe harp for the Dublin assay office, Hibernia tax paid stamp on Irish silver, the head of King George III as duty stamp, and the maker’s mark ‘TT’ for ThomasTownsend. Also stamped with ‘LAW’, which I believe is the retailer.

A superb, rare, pair of true antique forks for you toown and enjoy using or as an important addition to your collection.
