Pair of vintage 1950s chairs with English chintz upholstery. A fine example of 20th century design from a different point of view; this chair has distinct modern lines in the smooth curve of the back and angle of the back. However, it is perfectly juxtaposed with this original 1950s, English chintz fabric. And the overall look really works. This type of chair is, of course, perfect for the cottage chic or English country like ala Nancy Lancaster. However, it would also be great visual contrast to modern or mid-century modern furniture. One could see it as a little bit of kitsch or a little bit of chintz going a long way.... Why not mix a little Sister Parish in with your Eames and Knoll furniture.

The chair is incredibly well crafted with hand-tied springs, horse hair filling and hand sewn fabric. Also, if one would like to add an even more modern look, the skirt could be removed and the nails covered with a contrasting trim; thereby, revealing the sleek, hand-carved legs of the chair.
