This is a fantastic matched pair ofetched and incised Mettlach Art Nouveau Chargers #2344 and #2345 signed by Villeroy and Boch artist R. Fournier dated 1898 onthe back of each. These are very large and heavy chargers and although they are listed as measuring 19.5\" in literature, they actually measure about 19 7/8\", just shy of 20\". They depict two lovely maidens enjoying and smelling flowers.
This pair of charges are listed in The Mettlach Book by Gary Kirsner with a value of $1,500-$2,000 for each charger, bringing the value to $3,000-$4,000 for this matched pair. One of the chargers, #2345 has two tinychips on the back rim, but not visible from the front while hanging. The other is mint. This is a very rare pair, and the first time I have ever encountered or seen these. They make a lovely display. It is amazing that these chargers havesurvived since 1898 in such fantastic condition. A pair of these sold in The Stein sale Company\'s sale on 7/18/2017 for $1,500, which was the low estimate for the pair. See their online catalog of completed results for the price.
