Pair of Vintage Mexican Silver Antelope Brooches / Pins Pre Eagle 1920\'s-40\'s This is a great pair of Mexican silver (925 Sterling) Antelope brooches / pins hand smithed in Mexico in the 1920\'s-1940\'s before the Mexican Eagle stamping. Some may call these animals Impalas or Gazelles, but I think they are Antelopes. These figural brooches could be any of these animals, but I will call them antelope for this listing. They are in a watchful pose with one leg up and tail poised ready to flee if threatened. They are sculptural and dimensional providing depth and look good from all angles. There is nice detail on these pins. The horns are ridged, their facial features well defined, and their grace and agility is captured in their proportional Art Deco lines.These two figural brooches attach on the back side with the old style C clasp. They are stamped Mexico Silver on their backside. The Mexico Silver stamp tells us these pins have a minimum of 925 Sterling. To be called Mexican Silver, the jewelry must have 90% pure silver content. They are identical except one antelope is slightly smaller. The larger one measures 1 7/8\" High by 1 1/8\" at its widest with a depth of 3/8\". The smaller antelope measures 1 6/8\" High by 1\" at its widest with a depth of just over 1/4\". They weigh 9.5 grams together. Both antelopes have wonderful patina on them. The old silver is soft and seems to glow from within on these two. They look great worn together with one pinned slightly higher on the lapel than the other. They are both in excellent condition with no dents or dings, all original working parts, and no repairs. They are adorable. They came to me as a pair so I want to keep them together. Anyone who loves unusual animal brooches is going to love these two. They have the charm and personality we have come to expect in our old Mexican silver jewelry.
