Beautiful Russian folk handcraft. Palekh Russian lacquer art on paper-mache. The intricate designs are usually painted with egg tempura and 24K gold. Very fine detailing. The artists signature is on the bottom. Palekh designs usually represent characters from real life, literary works, fairy tales and songs. Box measures 6 1/4 \" long, 2 3/4\" wide & 1 3/8\" deep. Hinged opening reveals a shiny bright red interior. A fine line of gold design circles the bottom half of the box and a more intricate design surrounds the scene on the front. The detailing is very fine & beautiful. This box shows minimal wear. It would make a lovely eye glass case for any dresser.
