The Apostle remained, as far as was possible, a practicing Jew who agonized over his people, and never lost his sense of oneness with the \'Old Israel\', whilst in his theology it was to Rabbinic concepts that he chiefly turned in his wrestling to interpret Christ and the Christian life. Pauline Christianity, it is contended, is not the antithesis of Rabbinic Judaism, but its fulfillment in \'Christ\'.
