Phaidon Encyclopedia of Art and Artists, by Phaidon Press UK and published in the U.S. by E.P Dutton in 1978. The book was printed in the U.K in Hampshire. It contains 704 pages of art history and artist biography in an encyclopedia format dealing primarily with Western art, European and American. The articles number over 1600. There about a thousand entries on individual artists, sculptors and architects as well as entries on art movements and development. There are entries also touching on Asian, Byzantine, African and ancient art.
It is illustrated with 301 color reproductions and 1133 in black and white.
A wonderful reference book for every home! A Great Gift For Any Art Lover or Art Student! The book is in excellent condition with no rips or missing pages. There is no writing or markings in the book except for a smudge on the very last page on the bottom edge. The spine and boards are in great shape. It appears to have never been used. There is a mark on the outside of the spine which has a corresponding mark on the inside of the dust jacket that does not bleed through.The dust jacket is in very good condition. There is a little fraying on the inside flaps at the top and some foxing on the back inside flap. I also found some foxing in the book itself.
