Here’s an historic piece of Pinehurst Golfing memorabilia from my personal collection. The James Barber Memorial Trophy (Barber Trophy)was established by the Pinehurst Tin Whistles, one of the oldest golfing organizations in the United States (1904). James Barber built several homes in Pinehurst and the first miniature golf course in the US was established on the property of his “Thistle Dhu” home. Mr. Barber served as one of the early President of the Tin Whistles and the club members were regulars on his once famous miniature course. The Barber Trophy has been awarded annually since 1929. I have for sale the 1955 Barber Trophy won by H.M. Taylor. The Tin Whistles logo, the “T” combined with the “W”, appears engraved in the center of the platter as pictured. This oval tray or platter has the 20th century Gorham Sterling Hallmark dating it at 1955. It measures 18” x 13” and weighs in at just over 2 ¼ lb. (sorry, no troy oz. scale). For a 58 year old platter it’s in very good condition with surface scratches from use over the years. This sterling trophy tray was not cleaned or polished for the sale. This is a very rare and hard to find trophy and it\'s one of a kind.
