*Up for sale here is a scarce circa early 1850\'s pontiled Sacramento blob top soda or porter bottle, from the California Gold Rush era. This crude looking aqua example was dug many years ago during the 1960\'s, in the Carson City, Nevada area. When dug originally by an eager bottle hound, the shovel unfortunately raked the base and chipped it badly as seen here. There are two long base edge chips that connect, and there is also a thin open hole in the thick base, dead even with the left side seam. Must have been whacked pretty good. Anyways... this bottle can be repaired, and still displays OK as seen here. The rest of the bottle is very good, with some light ground wear haze here and there. The glass is full of tiny champagne bubbles, with some larger and longer ones in the neck portion. It also has a cool and crude looking \"flappy thingie\", when it was made in the mold on the lower left front side part of the embossing. The embossing is crude, as it reads in an arch ~ \"HENRY, WINKLE\", then straight across below this it reads ~ \"SAC. CITY\". (Sacramento City). On the back it has the two large ~ \"XX\", for the alcoholic content this bottle once contained. May have been some sort of porter or champagne mead with carbonation. It has the iron pontiled rimmed base, with all of the iron oxide being erased away with time, from being in the ground for over 100 years when originally dug. It has a nice looking long neck and blob top. A light tumbling would help this bottle out. *Most of the western sodas from this era are from San Francisco. There are a only a few different ones from Sacramento. Despite the damage, you will be happy with this example, which needs some good TLC to bring it back.
