Pre Civil War Vintage Child\'s Baby Dress - 1856 True Antique, Name of Child

Pre Civil War Child\'s / Baby Dress, dated 1856. In the style of the era, with off shoulder neckline, short cap sleeves, slightly elongated gathered waist. Dress fashioned from very fine, thin and soft wool, with elaborate black braid trim. Fully hand sewn, including the braid trims, for the daughter of a wealthy family. Child\'s name, age, and the name of the seamstress are included with the dress. A treasure worthy of any collection or museum exhibit.

Measuring ~Waist 19\" ~Shoulders 9\" across, sleeve to sleeve ~Bodice 8\" long to waist ~Skirt 12 1/4\" long. Dress is open down the back, and closes with a multitude of antique hook and eye sets, made of flattened metal, as opposed to the rounded metal from which these sets were later made. In overall good condition, at over 150 years old. There are several areas of wool deterioration, with a larger patch damaged at the front neckline (this is the area where the original note giving child\'s name was pinned\"). The bodice lining is stained, and there is a stain on the back skirt. Area around neckline is frayed. See larger pictures below for more detail. Bodice is fully lined, skirt hem is faced.

A rare little piece of history. Original items from this era are becoming harder to find, particularly coming from the same family many generations later.
