Up for sale is an 1865 Civil War commission of John McDonald toFirst Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Cavalry signed by President Andrew Johnson. This document was acquired from the estate of the McDonald family on the north side of Atlanta. Before purchasing the document, I had the autograph of both PresidentJohnson and Secretary of War Edward Stanton authenticated by Walter Golden who is an appraiser for Worthpoint and lives locally. The document is on vellum and is nicely framed and matted. The filled in portion of the document is lightly faded but is easily legible. John McDonald was a Pony Express rider before the war, an indian fighter after the war, and eventually became a congressman for the state of Delaware. His history is available on Wikipedia.
