PRES. BENJAMIN HARRISON MARCH 4, 1889 INAUGURAL BALL PROGRAM @ NEW PENSION BLDG.:
$56.65

On March 4, 1789 the Constitution of the United States first took effect. This became the date that Presidents were sworn into office until it was changed over to January. Franklin D. Roosevelt was the last to be sworn in on the March date in 1933. President Benjamin Harrison was sworn in on March 4, 1889; and the Inaugural Ball was held that same evening at the New Pension Building, which still exists in Washington, D.C. This 16 page program is about 4\" x 3.25\" and loaded with the names of all the people who served on various committees! I\'m sure anyone would be honored to find the name of an ancestor who played a role in this affair. Somehow it ended up in Maine and came into my possession sometime in the past 50+ years. It is part of our national history, and will hopefully be kept in its current good condition by the next owner.
