On Feb. 12, 1809 Abraham Lincoln was born to parentsThomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln in a small log cabin near Hodgenville, in HardinCounty Kentucky. The cabin was located on the 300 acre farm that Thomas Lincolnbought in 1808, which was also known as the Sinking Spring Farm. The Lincolnslived there for 2 years after Abraham’s birth until they re-located severalmiles away to Knob Creek Farm.

In 1916 Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace became aNational Park.

This piece of original wood was cut from an old treeon the farm. It was made into a souvenir and sold, circa 1929, bythe Ladies Lincoln League in Hodgenville to raise funds fortheir library. The Ladies Lincoln League had a pavilion of the property andsold souvenirs. An old image of the cabin was attached to the front of the woodand a label from the Ladies Lincoln League was attached to the back. The small piece of wood attached to the frontof this display card was cut from the original larger piece sold as a souvenir.

The first image on shows the display card withthe tree wood attached above the image of Lincoln’s cabin. The second image shows the original piece of souvenir wood and the label on the back ofthat souvenir piece. It also contains the description of where the wood camefrom.

The actual piece of wood is about ½ inch long and is mounted on a 5 x 7 inch descriptiveCOA display that can easily be framed. Each piece of wood will vary slightly dependingon how it was cut from the original larger piece. The display is protected by astiff plastic protector. The front image is an early view of the Lincoln’scabin with the wood mounted above. The back has a brief history of Lincoln’sbirthplace farm.

Thiswould look great matted and framed and would make a very special gift foranyone with an interest in history!
