Typed letter signed \"Herbert Hoover,\" 7.25x10.5, The Waldorf Astoria Towers, New York, New York, October 2, 1952. To Malcolm Johnson, D. Van Nostrand Company, Inc., New York, in full:

It was good to have your note on my return. I hope that when the World Series (actually and politically) are over, I may have the pleasure of seeing you and Mrs. Johnson again.

On October 1, 1952, the National League champion Brooklyn Dodgers had defeated the American League champion New York Yankees 4-2 in Games One of the 1952 World Series. On October 2nd, the day this letter was written, the Yankees beat the Dodgers 7-1 in Game Two. Both games were played at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. On October 7, 1952, the New York Yankees defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game Seven to win the 1952 World Series. The \"political\" World Series was won four weeks later on November 4, 1952, when Dwight D. Eisenhower defeated Adlai Stevenson in the presidential election becoming the first Republican elected President since Herbert Hoover in 1928.

Malcolm Johnson (1902-1958) was an editor and Vice President of book publishers Doubleday, Doran & Co. from 1937-1943. In 1942, Doubleday, Doran & Co. published \"The Problems of Lasting Peace\" by Herbert Hoover. Former managing editor of The Atlantic Monthly, at his death he was an Executive Vice President of book publishers D. Van Nostrand Co., Inc.
