William McKinley (1843-1901) was the 25th President of the United States. He was the third President to become the victim of an assassination. John Addison Porter (1856-1900) was the first man to hold the title \"Secretary to the President\". The signed letter comes with a certificate of authenticity from JG Autographs, which includes their guarantee for the life of the item. This is the original letter, not a duplicate. The letter is addressed to a man named Albert W. Paine of Bangor, Maine. Albert Ware Paine (1812-1907) was a lawyer and writer who was instrumental in the passage of several important laws in Maine. He was the author of several volumes of history and philosophy. The letter, dated August 25, 1898, is typed on a piece of stationary, about 8\" by 5 1/2\", with the words EXECUTIVE MANSION, WASHINGTON printed at the top. Porter\'s name is written somewhat differently here; you will have to use your judgement as to whether this name was written by Porter or someone else.
