Production Animation Cel Drawing From Walt Disney’s 1940 Film, “fantasia” For Sale
Production Drawing from Disney’s 1940 film, “Fantasia”Item: For sale is a production drawing of the centaurette Melinda.
Condition: The paper is in excellent condition. There is some light tanning to the paper which is to be expected for it’s age. There is a small piece missing on the upper left side, I have seen consecutive drawings from this scene that are missing this piece at exactly the same spot so it was either done during production when they were stacked together (most likely), during storage (likely) or at sometime in the second-hand market (quite possible too). Either way it is a testament to it’s authenticity as well as the water mark shown in the pic’s, “management bond”.Other Information: This is a beautiful, expressing and well centered drawing of Melinda as she is lured to Brudus by the cherubs. Included with the drawing is a descriptive cut sheet that provides more information regarding this specific drawing:This is a production drawing from the 1940 Disney feature film, “Fantasia“This film featured eight animated segments set to a specific classical musical selection, which were recorded under the direction of Leopold Stokowski. This drawing is from the Pastoral segment which featured Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F, op. 68 “Pastorale”. The Pastoral Symphony depicts mythical creatures from ancient Greece, gathering for a festival to honor Bacchus, the god of wine. In this scene the centaurettes have been preparing themselves, with the help of the cherubs, for a parade past the eligible centaurs with hopes of finding a mate. When everyone has paired together and begins frolicking with one another, the cherubs notice that a young female with blond pigtails is alone and brooding by the edge of the water. As shown in this drawing, the cherubs (off screen) lure her towards a single mare, by playing on their pipes. She is almost floating as she strolls with her eyes closed, all the while closing in on an unsuspecting and equally lonely centaur named Brudus. Melinda and her male counterpart were endearing enough that Disney included them in a collection of 6 different sets of limited edition cels to commemorate the film
The first two & the last pictures have been altered (the contrast) to better show the line work of the drawing, and to show the watermark in the paper. Starting at a very low opening offer so that everyone has a chance at taking her home.
