PRR steam engine bell:
$2200.00

This bell was purchased from an antique dealer in Altoona, Pa. and was subsequently restored.A long time PRR employee who had passed away related to his family that it was removed from a K4s engine. There are no stampings on the bell, so this can\'t be confirmed. The unique feature of this bell is the very rare spring loaded arrestor assembly. This consists of a brass spring housing and a horn shaped device on a clevis that catches a lug on the yoke. This prevents the cord operated bell from rolling over and causes a back and forth motion while ringing. This feature is shown in an article on PRR bells in The Keystone, a quarterly publication of thePennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society ( pp. 50 & 51 Volume 33, Issue 1).Although the mounting pad for this device is cast and machined on EVERY bell stand mounted on the C1, E6s, G5s, H8-9-10, K4s, L1s, I1s, M1 and M1a class engines, few collectors have ever seen the assembly still intact. All the correct casting numbers are on the spring housing, yoke and stand. The cast steel parts have been painted with POR-15 gloss black and the bell is highly polished and clear lacquered. The inside of the bell was intentionally left unrestored.A steel base was fabricated to the correct angle of the boiler course where the bell was mounted so that it sits at the correct vertical angle. The bell and base are mounted on a hardwood slab and four heavy duty casters. The entire assembly weighs approximately 300#.Will deliver the bell to within a 100 mile radius of Cleveland, Ohio for a $50.00 charge or it can be delivered to Strasburg, Pa. on August 12-13.
