Qing Dynasty Bowl with Phoenix - Late 18th c.:
$113.00

Beautifully executed early China trade dish intended for export to Southeast Asia. Most likely Late Ming period. Probably made in Jingdexhen or Jiangxi. As is typical, kiln grit present along rim and foot as well as several glaze flaws (potholes). Such issues only add to authenticity of the piece. Decoration is in blue under glaze cobalt in various shades featuring a phoenix in flight (female symbol) and what appears to be a sea anemone at bottom along with a peony (female symbol) and other florals. Two distinct marks on base. One, in black under glaze, is the symbol for courage. The second is in blue under glaze surrounded by two square boxes. This could be a shop mark as characters are indecipherable, at least to me. Also note the typical rounded Ming foot. Measures approximately 10\" in diameter. Depth is approximately 2 inches.
