This exquisite tea set of Victorian quadruple is marked and stamped \"Patterned May 10th, 1898\". It was by Van Berch and is richly decorated. The set includes the Tea Pot, The large Cream with Sugar (with top) and the Waste. I have cleaned it and shined it some, but I do not highly polish family silver and prefer the patina. This set was used and loved by the family, and not just a sit out and show piece, so it has a couple of minor dents. Never the less it looks wonderful for being a true antique. One reason that ladies of that era often preferred highly plated silver pieces was because it withstood ware better than sterling, which dented, not to mention losing handles and spouts.
This service has a soft glowing patina that makes it feel so much at home with many of the items in today.s homes yet is a rare antique. It does have, as noted, some minor \"love dents\" and a few spots where the silver finish is worn, but it is a beautiful set for it\'s age.
Van Bergh often appeared to be one word \"VANBERGH\" on it\'s older silver.
