R&J BECK ACHROMATIC STEREOSCOPE 31 CORNHILL LONDON
Designed to view stereo cards mounted in a book or album, the viewer hand held or set down. Swiveling spring clips enable this to be used as a regular hand held loose card viewer.
Figured walnut, black and lacquered brass, rack and pinion focusing panel, reflecting mirror, frosted glass septum to avoid harsh shadows.
Maroon leather covered handle with gilt letters PATENT MIRROR No 1919.
With original maroon leather, velvet lined box with covered well to store a few cards. In strong sound condition, some light scuffing and staining to the outside of the box, the carrying handle is missing.
All in excellent little used condition with original surfaces throughout, in good working order, clear optics, smooth rack and pinion.
Weight 1197 grams.
A rare top quality early stereo card viewer. The patent was 1859 so these would have been manufactured soon after.
