Ladies Solid 9ct Gold Cigarette Case

Hallmarked for Birmingham 1918, this is a lovely rare ladies cigarette case / compact. Of canted oblong form, one side is engraved with the RAF insignia and the other with an \'M\'. It is of hinged form, and opens to reveal an aperture for powder and a small circular mirror opposite the cigarette holder. It is on a chain handle.

The cigarette case measures 3 1/4 inches by 2 inches and weighs a total of 86.1 grams, of which most of this will be solid 9ct gold, about 80 grams, (chain only weighs 2.5gm)

Provenance:

This cigarette case came from sale where it was described thus: The descendants of Marjory Hall-Smith, whose first husband died early in The First World War. This case was a present from her second husband who was unfortunately killed in an air-crash at the end of the same war.

CONDITION:

With minor indentations, overall condition is good considering its age.
