THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE 1862 CIVIL WAR DOCUMENT

IT IS APPROXIMATELY 7 7/8 x 9 7/8 INCHES IN SIZE

This \"US\" embossed Battle Creek Tennessee document is signed by SB WILLS and is dated 24 August 1862. It is a receipt of Wills receiving materials from LT A Berwick of Edgarton\'s Battery, Battery E,1st Ohio Artillery Regiment.

Lieutenant Berwick and Captain Edgarton were captured at the Battle of Stones River, Tennessee, summary below.

Within 4 months of this document on December 31st, 1862, the Edgarton\'s battery was involved in the battle of Stones River in Tennessee. Captain Warren P. Edgarton’s Battery E served with the Second Brigade, Second Division, RightWing, Fourteenth Corps (beside Battery A). December 31st was not a good day for the battery, with casualties numbering ten killed, seven wounded, and twenty-two captured. Along with 75 horses, the battery lost six guns and other equipment. So a blank entry for this battery may not be far off. The battle of Stones River lasted 4 days to January 2, 1863 and the battle was inconclusive with many losses of both sides.
