Profusely illustrated. With two 1890s bookplates, John Joyce Carter and Luke Berne Carter. LOTs on the Civil War. Pepper was the Chaplain under General William Tecumseh Sherman, hence his authorship of a book on Sherman\'s Campaigns. He later served as US consul in Milan, Italy.
