RARE18TH CENTURY ASH BURL MORTAR AND ORIGINAL PESTLE!
Offered today is a Rare and Outstanding 18th Century (1740-80) American Ash Burl Turned Mortar and Pestle! A Superb surviving example with the absolute best undisturbed original darkened nut brown patina! Original Pestle is Ash and exhibits tremendous wear pattern that alignsperfectly with the molded lip of the mortar indicating that it is the original pestle made at the same time as the mortar. Condition is as good as one can ask for an original mortar of this time period dating 1740-80, with age appropriate wear to the lip of the mortar, age lines do not go thru to interior just shrinkage lines, all minor considering its age. No Cracks!!! Incised rings at the top, turned bulbous body, and heavy turned platform base. Similar examples can be found in Steven Powers book \"North American Burl Treen\". Size measures 5\"siam x 6\" high, pestle 7-1/2\" long. If you collect early 18th century Americana, this is a wonderful example and right as rain.
