A VERY FINE LATE 18TH CENTURY EasterN CONNECTICUT \"FAN BACK\" WINDSOR ARMCHAIR WITH TWO FINELY TURNED SUPPORTS WITH THE BEST PORRINGER SHAPED HANDS, AN OVER SIZED HAND HEWN SADDLE SEAT WITH SPLAYED BOLDLY TURNED LEGS IN NICE OLD GRUNGY 19TH CENTURY VARNISHED SURFACE AND PATINA IN WONDERFUL CONDITION.
Eastern Connecticut, Circa 1780-1820. A VERY RARE AND BOLD EXAMPLE OFTEN CALLED A STATE HOUSE WINDSOR. They got their name because there are many late 18th or early 19th century paintings of the Connecticut State House with members of congress sitting at chairs like this.
Wonderful form and design. Nice \"PORRINGER\" shaped hands.
This is a very rare form. It has a great hand hewn carved seat with nice turned and splayed legs and stretchers.
The legs and stretchers are all original, the feet are about an inch short from wear and tear. The Arm supports and all the spindles are original and fully intact. The top crest is intact as is the mid rail. Both hands are fully intact.
The surface is a great old 19th century refinish with grungy old colored varnish that has a wonderful patina.
