STRAIGHT FROM AN OLD CONNECTICUT COLLECTION.

CONNECTICUT HEART AND CROWN CHAIRS RARELY COME ONTO THE OPEN MARKET. WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO PURCHASE AN PAIR OF SIMILAR CHAIRS. THIS IS THE FIRST OF TWO WE WILL BE LISTING THIS WEEK.
This is the chair on the right in the photos showing both chairs together.

THESE CHAIRS ARE OFTEN CONSIDERED A PIECE OF 18TH CENTURY AMERICAN FOLK ART.

AN EXTREMELY RARE QUEEN ANNE CONNECTICUT \"HEART AND CROWN\" DECORATED SIDE CHAIR, Circa 1740-1770 WITH A WONDERFUL SHAPED \"HEART AND CROWN\" TOP CREST, ACORN FINIALS AND A NICE SHAPED QA SPLAT, made by the PARMELE Family of Cabinetmakers, Guilford, CT.

A period 18th Century HEART AND CROWN Decorated chair with a fully developed and scrolled carved CROWN crest with the Best Cut Heart Element, a highly developed and turned flattened acorn finial and a nice shaped splat.
It is in a nice old bone dry refinish with traces of the original Red Painted surface.

THIS EXTREMELY RARE CHAIR IS ATTRIBUTED TO THE PARMELE FAMILY OF CABINETMAKERS FROM GUILFORD, CT CIRCA 1740-1760. A nearly identical example is illustrated and researched in Robert Trent\'s Book, \"Hearts and Crowns\". These chairs and the info are in the last few photos. Other examples of these RARE Chairs can be found in the collections of the Connecticut Historical Society, The Wadsworth Atheneum, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Metropolitan Museum, New York.

The feet are original, but over the past 200 years it has lost about an inch of height. The Rush seat dates to the late 19th century and is in very good condition.

This great chair stands 41 1/4\" tall. The seat height is 16 1/4\" and is 20\" across.
