Nice Jugate Political Pin of William McKinley / Teddy Roosevelt circa 1900.

RARE Antique McKinley Roosevelt Presidential Gold CampaignButton or Pinback. Features handsome likenesses of McKinley & Roosevelt. Reverse original paper insert says made by \"The Whitehead & Hoag Co., Newark NJ\".Measures 22 millimeters inDiameter. NO fading, scratches, or scuffs to celluloid. Condition is PRISTINE Near-Mint! (see pics)

In 1896, Roosevelt had once again tried and failed to get aspot on the national Republican ticket. McKinley won that election andappointed Roosevelt Assistant Secretary of the Navy, where \"TR\", ashe was called, worked to broaden and upgrade the service. In 1898, Roosevelt,along with physician and soldier Leonard Wood, formed the Rough Riders. TheRough Riders\' victory at the Battle of San Juan Hill in Cuba made Roosevelt apopular national figure. After that (in 1899), he was elected governor of NewYork. As governor he followed his own mind and heart above the wishes of theRepublican Party. Nevertheless, in 1901, Theodore Roosevelt became WilliamMcKinley\'s Vice President; and when McKinley was assassinated in September ofthat year, Roosevelt assumed the presidency. At the age of forty-three,Theodore Roosevelt was the youngest man to ever become President of the UnitedStates.
