DESCRIPTION: ULTRA RARE vintage 1944 gelatin silver heavy weight photograph taken by EARL FORBES (see his signed credit on recto and stamp on verso) of bodybuilder JOE THALER. Forbes sold most of his photographs to magazines so prints existing without a painted pouch are quite rare.This is a rare image that also includes handwritten notes on the model on verso.

Born in New York in 1897, Earl Forbes was a dancer in Ted Shawn\'s troupe. Curiously Forbes used a low priced Kodak Brownie camera to shoot some of the most artistic photographs during his time.His work has been compared to that of Lynes and Townsend despite his minimalist method of photography.
