On July 24, 1984, in a ceremony in the Theodore Roosevelt Room, The President received the first piece of the President\'s Signature Edition Character Jug. Sales of these numbered limited edition pieces were to benefit the James F. Brady Presidential Foundation. Present at the ceremony was Mr. Brady, Press Secretary to the President who also received a jug from the President, Mrs. Brady, representatives of the foundation, The Republican National Committee, and Royal Doulton.

The Signature Edition was originally planned for 5,000 pieces, but when initial sales fell below expectations the edition was officially slashed to 2000 pieces with even fewer than this number produced.
