THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF A SOUTHERN HEPPLEWHITE PERIOD CARVED CRESTED ARMCHAIR IN THE ABSOLUTE BEST OLD ORIGINAL GRUNGY SURFACE AND PATINA IN NEAR PERFECT CONDITION.

AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINA AREA \"HEPPLEWHITE\" PERIOD ARMCHAIR WITH A CARVED OPEN BACK SPLAT, A SCROLLED TOP CREST RAIL AND THE FINEST SCROLLED AND CARVED ARMS. IT STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL DOVETAILED STRETCHERS AS WELL AS ITS ORIGINAL SEAT FRAME.

Williamsburg, VA, Circa 1810-1820 in Mahogany with its original Poplar Seat Frame and one original poplar corner block.

A very rare form, especially from the southern State.

This chair has a very fine carved and scrolled back splat with a nice formed top crest. The arms are all original and still retain their original screws. The stretchers are original and fully intact. The seat frame is original and made of native American Poplar. The seat covering is a very fine reproduction blue silk pattern in very fine condition.

THE SURFACE IS REMARKABLE. COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. IT IS GRUNGY, DARK AND HAS THE BEST POSSIBLE PATINA.

IT HAS NOT BEEN ENDED OUT AND ALL THE FEET ARE ORIGINAL.

The condition issues are very slight. Three of the interior corner blocks are replaced as is the seat covering. the original screws from the inside frame holding the arms are both intact but there are two later \"helper\" screws added.

This great chair stands 37 1/2\" tall. The seat height is 17 1/2\" tall.
