The pouch is indeed of the Apache Tribe and appears to be in excellent condition. The beads on the pouch are very small. In 1870, size 13 was employed; in 1880, bead size 12 was predominant and bead size 11 also appeared. Bead size 12 continued to be used in the 1920\'s, and from 1910 to 1920, bead size 11 dominated. Since 1960, bead size 10 has been used almost exclusively, although there has been a shift by many modern bead jewelry makers to the smallest beads. Apache Indians were relative newcomers to the Southwest, arriving sometime between 1400 and 1600, traveling from the Northwestern part of North America. These Apache bands that settled in east central Arizona have collectively been called Western apache. The pouch appears to be buckskin and has a lacing/drawstring opening with knotted fringes. The sides of the pouch have a checkerboard pattern of dark blue and white beads. The bottom of the pouch has diagonal blue and white beads. The \"fringe\" on the bottom of the pouch are long strung beads in a main color of turquoise with other colors of corresponding beads. The turquoise color illustrates the tribes of the southwest and their influence on the Apaches. The pouch, overall, has a Plains Tribe appearance. The very outer perimeter of the pouch has very small glass beads in colors of red, and blue/green. The front of the pouch has a central motif of a diamond shape checkerboard pattern in colors of clear, red, turquoise, gold, dark blue, red and white; the top has a loose turquoise square that can be repaired. There are 6 crescent shape extensions from the central motif in colors of red, clear and blue. There are 4 floral designs in green beads with red glass bead tips. There appears to be 2 bead sizes on the pouch: 11 and 12 which would date the Apache pouch C. 1910-1920. The other side of the pouch has a checkerboard design of green and red beads around the perimeter. The central motif is a diamond shape in squares of white, clear, blue and red clear beads; the center is green. There are 6 crescent shape designs in red, white, clear and blue. There are 4 floral motifs in turquoise with clear, clear red and blue beads. The pouch appears to be an awl case used for piercing holes; the pouch is classified as a \"tool\" pouch.Date
