Egyptian scarab Seal Bead; glazed steatite stone with hieroglyphics inscribed on reverse; laterally drilled hole for hanging or focal jewelry component. This Egyptian seal bead was carved in the shape of a Dung Beetle & in 300 BC believed to serve as a talisman, with powers for resurrection, as this beetle \"plays\" dead then comes back to life again!...the hieroglyphics & pictographs on the reverse are clear & precise; blue glaze is obvious though a bit worn...this piece is from the private collection of Jan Hurwich, imported 1972, NY/NY...further information available...
