Description:

A rare and early hand craftedJapanese Ko Imari porcelain dish of quatrefoil shape, dating to the mid Edo period (1603 - 1868).

The centre of the dish is decorated with a watery scene, a gold water bird in flight above floral and foliate designs. The design has been created in underglaze blue and brown, with green and red overglaze enamelshighlighted ingold gilt, the underside with underglaze blue watery pattern to the rim with red enamel accent. The slightly raised foot is outlined on both sides with an underglaze blue ring.

Width: 13.9 cmor 5 1/2 inches

Condition:

In good antique condition considering its substantial age, withoutrestoration, but with signs of age and use. There is a small firing crack to the right side of the dish, formed during manufacture, and a couple of small bites to the rim at the upper and lower right corners. The porcelain shows some expected rust spots as expected with an item of this age, and some wear to the gilt especially to the rim. Please see the images provided which complement this description.
