Provenance: Acquired from WOUTER THOMAS, an advanced collector of Oceania in the Netherland. Photos speak for themselves. His description when purchased: \"Compared to others I\'ve seen, this one has nice facial features and the band to separate the front from the skull is from a treeskin with impressed lines in it. I actually recall these were used as money in the region (like with the Massim pressing patterns into a thin bananaleaf as currency). The skull also shows a bit elongation as is custom in Vanuatu. Surely a very old piece dating to about 1900.Measures; 22 cm long by 16 cm in height.
Condition; excellent, some natural cracks along lines caused by the drying of the natural substance the face is made of. The prior collector acquired it from another collector who bought it at a German antique sale Newmeister, but he could not remember exactly when this was; about 1985. The sale was with general antique and this was among 3 other New Guinea lots the only tribal.\"
