ANTIQUE FRENCH ADVERTISING PRINTED LINEN BOLT END C1890 LYONS MILL EXPORTPlease scroll down for more pictures.This is such a rare find and the first I have found in 30 years of travelling France truffling for antique textiles.
This is one from a batch I have sourced that were from the archives of a long gone linen weaving mill in Lyons. I am listing more from the batch in myother items.
This antique French advertising panel dates from the 1920s and was advertising end of a bolt of fine linen woven for export.
I have done a little research into the companies abroad who registered their trade marks in France and then put their orders to the Lyons mill to produce their fine linens with their own brand names on the bolts.
The Lyons factory kept the design samples in their archives and they have been stashed away since the factory closed in the 1930s.
This panel is in superb condition and is printed in deep mauve on a creamy very fine linen.
It carries the words FABRICATION FRANCAISE with a superbly detailed vignette of an old motor car. The company making the order was from MAJUNGA and the oval frame below carries the bolt size.
This panel measures 33.5\" x 36\". ( folded with the design on the front)
All in wonderful condition with just a few pin holeswhere it was hung in its past life.
Fabulous for framing or any period textile projects.
A rare find for any textile addict or decorative display.
