A piece of 209 year old Irish History!
A highly collectable Irish solid silver Oar pattern table spoon, dating from 1808, witha single drop heel and a crest of a Lion\'s head to the terminal, which shows that it once belonged to a grand house somewhere in Ireland!
The hallmarks show the crowned Harp and Hibernia for the Dublin Assay Office, the King\'s head duty mark, the date letter \"M\" for 1808, and the maker\'s mark \"A.M\" in a lozenge for the renowned Arthur Murphy, a Dublin Silversmith who worked in Skinner Row.
It is of a good gauge of silver, and has a pleasing original patina.
It is a good size and measures just over 91/2\"/24cm with a respectable weight of 65g/2.29oz/2.09 troy oz.
It is best described as in reasonable condition for the age, with a good straight stem and clear hallmarks.It does however have some notching and wear to the rim and tip of the bowl,and some dimpling and a noticeable small deeper dint to the back of the bowl, andthe usual surface scratches.It also has a crease to the terminal where it looks like someone has tried to open a tin lid or something with it :(It is a also a little bit dull, probably from over-zealous polishing!
