Offered is an exquisiteand rare solid 22k gold medal from Nuremberg, Germany by Ludwig Christian Lauer,mid-1800. Obverse: Scene of Baptism in the Jordan with Jesus in the center, Johnthe Baptist on left, two angels on right and above the dove of the Holy Spiritin rays, “L. CHR. LAUER. NUERNBERG” in legend at the bottom (pictured).Reverse: Nativity scene with infant Jesus surrounded by Virgin Mary and two animals onright, Saint Joseph and shepherd on left, angel in center, the tree magi and twoshepherds on top of cave and above the Star of Bethlehem (pictured).

It measures 32 mm andweighs 5.5 grams. The medal has a loop at 12 o’clock to be worn as a pendant. Themedal has been tested with X-ray fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF) and it isguaranteed to be solid 22 karat gold.

It is in excellentcondition for its age with slight bent across the middle and bottom (pictured).The medal pictured is the one you will receive so please examine all picturescarefully.

Ludwig Christian Lauerwas a Nuremberg medalist. He started his trade in 1848 based on anestablishment already founded by the great-grandfather. With the use ofhydroelectric power and Uhlhorn\'s modern coin presses, he expanded his company.After his death in 1873 the company was continued by his widow and three sons.

Lauer was a leadingGerman manufacturer of medals, tokens and related products in the second halfof the 19th century. Artistically the production was solid with the influenceof French and Austrian medalists evident. Lauer exported a lot abroad and tothe UK succeeding against the competition of the Birmingham manufacturers.
