RARE AND UNUSUAL ANTIQUE IVORY-COLOURED BONE MINIATURE EGG CONTAINING A SILVER THIMBLE. I THINK THIS IS OLD POSSIBLY GEORGIAN. LOVELY CLEAR IVORY COLOUR WITH ONE TINY PIN PRICK TO ONE SIDE WHERE SOMEONE HAS PRESUMABLY DONE A HOT PIN TEST. THE EGG OPENS WITH A SIMPLE SCREW AND THE INSIDES ARE LINED WITH YELLOWED SILK MATERIAL. THE THIMBLE IS HEAVILY DECORATED AND THERE ARE HALLMARKS BUT TOO SMALL FOR ME TO IDENTIFY. IT MEASURES 5/8ths x 1/4in. THIS PIECE HAS BEEN IN A GLASS CASE FOR MANY YEARS AND THERE IS NO DISCOLOURATION TO THE OUTER CASE. UNUSUAL PIECE FOR THE COLLECTOR OF BEAUTIFUL THINGS.
