John S. Bower pastel signed and dated 1899. Bower\'s works of fruit, often depicted sitting on the ground, are commonly seen in the northEastern states, as he is apparently most closely associated with Massachusetts. His seascapes are much harder to find and the prices for them are much higher. John S. Bower was from Stoughton, Massachusetts. Very little is known about Bower. He seemed quite prolific and is most recognized for his paintings of fruit and flowers. Comparable pastels have gone for $850 and some $1000. This pastel does have a small worm hole at the bottom as seen in the photos. Frame is original to the piece as is the wavy glass. It has been updated with spacers, acid free backer, new dust cover and hanging hardware for it to be displayed.

Frame size is 18 1/2 x 23 1/4 and sight size is 14 3/4 x 19 1/2 inches.
