This particular piece is rare, circa 1854-1857. It is known as a \"flatback\" pottery figurine (the back was left plain and flat so as to easily rest on a mantle against the chimney).The alliance of Turkey, England and France in the Crimean War is commemorated in this figural statue. Depicted are the Queen of England (Queen Victoria), the Sultan of Turkey (Abdul Medjid) and Napoleon III of France.The figures are lifelike, the clothing and facial details finely executed. The dress of the Queen is hand painted with leaves and flowers. The military uniform of Napoleon III handsome and correct right down to the red sash. The Sultan\'s flowing robe and headdress are depicted with accuracy. The figurine is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs that I could see. There is crazing. measures: 10 7/8\" tall, 9\" wide (elbow to elbow) and 2 3/4\" deep at the center bottom.
