Offering for your consideration a RARE HB Quimper pilgrim\'s flask dating from the late 19th century to about 1910.The 6\" tall flask displays a charmingly detailed scene of a Breton woman seated in an open field. She is holding a large distaff of yarn.
The reverse side depicts an armorial Crest of Brittany with a royal crown above. The Breton shield with a field of black ermine tails is held in place by two lions. \"Guerande\", the name of a famous town in Brittany, is lightly written above in script.
There is a rich blue acanthus leaf border encircling the sides. Please see photo #5 for detail. In addition a handsome geometric band surrounds the neck.
I have shown it as it was purchased in France with an old French ribbon looped through the four side bands. This would have been how the flask was hung, when in use. It can be hung for display or the ribbon can be removed and it can be displayed on a plate holder.
The piece is in excellent condition. There is a small professional, invisible restoration to one of the bands. The detail can be seen on photo #5. It displays as mint and has gorgeous blue colors in a rich palette. The hand painted details are lovely.
Thank you for your visit to this very RARE form from the Maison de la Hubaudiere for the discerning French faience Quimper collector. This is the first and only example of this mold that I have seen in my 48 years of collecting and dealing in Quimper pottery.
