FOR sale TODAY I AM DELIGHTED TO OFFER THIS RARE AND WONDERFUL ANTIQUE KING GEORGE THE THIRD PERIOD ROUND SILVER PATCH BOX MADE BY THE RENOWNED AND EXCELLENT SILVERSMITH SAMUEL PEMBERTON. PATCH BOXES WERE USED TO KEEP BEAUTY SPOTS INSIDE THEM FOR RICH GENTLEMEN TO PUT ON THEIR FACES. IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO DAMAGE OR REPAIRS AND JUST A COUPLE OF VERY VERY SMALL PIN-PRICK BRUISES AT THE BASE WHICH ARE REALLY NOTHING AT ALL AND JUST MENTIONING FOR ACCURACY. PEMBERTON IS A BIG NAME AS A SILVERSMITH AND JEWELLER FOR THIS PERIOD AND IS ONE OF THE FAMOUS FIVE SILVERSMITHS THAT CAME OUT OF BIRMINGHAM AT THIS TIME. HE WAS A TOY MAKER TOO AND ALSO BECAME A GUARDIAN OF THE ASSAY OFFICE IN 1793 SO QUITE AN IMPORTANT MAKER. THE DETACHABLE COVER OF THE BOX HAS A LOVELY TYPICAL CHASED DESIGN ON IT OF AN OVAL SHAPE CARTOUCHE WITH THE LETTER H IN IT, WITH A JOINED SEMI-CIRCLE BORDER AROUND IT SURROUNDED BY A DOUBLE PIN-PRICK BORDER NEAR THE EDGE OF THE LID, WITH LARGE DOTS INSIDE IT, AND VARIOUS OTHER CHASED DESIGNS. THIS IS QUITE SYNONYMOUS WITH PEMBERTON AND OF THE PERIOD. THERE IS NO RUBBING OR SILVER LOSS TO THE CHASING AT ALL. THE BOX IS ABSOLUTELY ROUND AND IN IT'S ORIGINAL SHAPE AND FORM. THE LID GOES ON PERFECTLY SNUG AND STAYS ON TIGHT WITH ABSOLUTELY NO GAPS AROUND AT ALL. IT'S A WONDERFUL PIECE AND IN AMAZING CONDITION FOR IT'S 215 YEARS. IT IS NICELY HALLMARKED TOO. INSIDE THE COVER THERE IS FIVE HALLMARKS, IN THE CENTER THERE IS THE SP FOR THE MAKER SAMUEL PEMBERTON THEN ALL AROUND THIS THERE IS THE LION PASSANT FOR STERLING SILVER, THE ANCHOR FOR THE BIRMINGHAM ASSAY OFFICE THE DATE LETTER X FOR THE YEAR 1795 AND THE KING GEORGE THE THIRD'S BUST AS THE DUTY MARK. ON THE BASE THERE IS AGAIN PEMBERTON'S MARK SP. THE PATCH BOX MEASURES 2.75 CENTIMETERS OR 1 1/8 OF AN INCH IN DIAMETER AND 7 MILLIMETERS THICK. IT WEIGHS 9 GRAMS.
