An amazing piece of Pennsylvania folk art this very unique quilt we just found from a Berks County estate.
The design is so unusual with mariners compass blocks, tulips, applique tulips and top edge framed with diamonds.
Notice the maker designed different tulips at the bottom corners.
In all the years of quilt selling and collecting, I haven\'t ever seen this pattern before. You can see it was some Pennsylvania gals special creation.
Measurements: 93 x 80 inches
Hand quilted 6-7 stitches per inch. Edges are turned and hand sewn. Batting is thin. Applique is hand sewn. Hand pieced.
There\'s age and water spotting on front and back. A mend and small bites to the accents. I can see batting peeking through from the needle pushing through during making which is neat to see in places. Quilting that has come out from age in places.
Crisp, never used or washed.
Circa 1860s era
