This RARE find is a great decor piece and in good shape. I see no chips or scratches on the jar but on the top of the lid there are a few scratches. The wire bail does show rust but makes it perfect for hanging.
This was supposed to have an additional piece in the jar for removing ice cream but I do not have this aluminum press that would have fit inside the main body.
There is a rubber gasket around the lid which has deteriorated and is missing a part (see photo). The bottom still has the porcelain stopper but again the rubber looks to be very old and discolored.
The bottom of the jar is embossed: Patented Feb. 14, 1899, C.H. Fox Bancore, ME
Included is a printout of the original patent for this jar.
