FRESH FROM AN OLD COLLECTION

AN EXTREMELY BOLD EARLY 18TH CENTURY QUEEN ANNE SIDE CHAIR WITH A STRONG SHAPED CREST WITH A BOLD SPLAT AND DEEP EARLY BLOCK TURNINGS AND FINE BRUSH CARVED SPANISH FEET. MASSACHUSETTS, CIRCA 1730-1740, WITH A NICE OLD 19TH CENTURY DARKED MAHOGINIZED SURFACE WITH TRACES OF THE ORIGINAL DARKENED VARNISH STILL INTACT.

A first period, Early 18th Century QUEEN ANNE American side chair. It has a fully developed and scrolled crest and a highly developed and carved center splat. Block turned with a dramatic cant to the rear.

IT HAS A BOLD TURNED SINGLE FRONT STRETCHER WITH THE BEST TURNED SIDE STRETCHERS AND A RARE MOLDED BOTTOM SPLAT RAIL AND TURNED REAR STRETCHER.

IT HAS A VERY DEFINED AND WELL EXECUTED SHAPED AND MOLDED TOP CREST AND ENDS IN STRONG WELL FORMED \"SPANISH FEET\" WHICH ARE ALL ORIGINAL.

THIS CHAIR HAS BOLD BLOCK TURNINGS AND REAR POSTS. It is from the BOSTON, MA AREA AND DATES CIRCA 1730-1740. The woods are Maple and Ash. The shape of the nicely carved crest is indicative of that area as well as are the fully developed and bulbous turned single front stretcher and the typical turned side stretchers as well as the BOLD CARVED SPANISH FEET. This chair is structurally all original. The rush seat is about 100 years old and is in fine condition.

The surface is a great old late 19th century dark Mahogonized surface with traces of the original dark stained varnish still present. The natural rush seat dates to about the same time and is only the second seat.

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY BOLD AND RARE CHAIR,

NO REPAIRS TO THE FEET THEY ARE ALL ORIGINAL. Minor losses, there is evidence of a mid 19th century addition of some iron rods to tighten the chair. these were removed before the chair was refinished in the late 19th century. This was a common Civil War ear repair to tighten a chair and we wee this quite often in rush seated chairs.

This great chair stands 40 3/4\" tall. The seat height is a full 17\".
