This is a very rare circa 1915 watercolor by the famous Austrian artist Eduard Josef Wimmer done for the Wiener Werkstatte. This watercolor has an original gallery label from Piccadilly Gallery Ltd of London from 1973. This gallery was one of the leading galleries selling Werkstatte art, German Expressionist art, and Art From the Art Nouveau period. The watercolor os 21 1/2\" by 17\" framed with a sheet size of 9 1/2\" BY 6 3/4\". Pencil signed artist cypher. The watercolor is in very good condition and selling without reserve, international buyers welcome.
Eduard Josef Wimmer (1882-1961) was a major Austrian Artist and designer who was primarily known for his work in fashion design and theatre, in fact he was often referred to as the Poiret of Vienna. Wimmer joined the famous Austrian design firm the Wiener Werkstatte in 1907 and was the artistic director of the firm\'s fashion department form 1910-1922. He was also appointedto headthe set and costume design department for the famous Café Fledermaus in 1907. In 1922 he traveled to New York where he assisted Josef Urban in designing the New York Branch of the Wiener Werkstatte.
