RARE, ELEGANT 1930s ART DECO SILVER & COPPER COMPACT WITH FINE SILK PUFFS!

What an elegant beauty this is! It\'s styled with the sleek and unadorned simplicity of the late Deco period known as \"The Machine Age\", when bold but very simple design was all the rage. The lid has that style, with minimal but very striking decoration.

The compact measures 3 1/4\" by 2 1/2\" and has an eye-catching sloped shape, going from about 1/4\" deep at one end to almost 1/2\" at the other. This is another example in which shape is as much a part of the design as the decoration. The lid is brilliant silver chrome with three vertical gold bands running from top to bottom. On the lower left-hand corner is a triangular shaped piece with wide outer bands of gold and silver, then very closely packed curving copper bands inside. It has a tendency to change color slightly, depending on how the light hits it. There are NO dents or dings.

The rounded chrome sides also widen out toward the front and continue along at the clasp end. The interesting clasp is a large knurled piece that rolls forward to open the lid. The back is all silver unadorned chrome in good condition, though in certain lights you can see a very shallow depression. The hinge runs the full width of the compact and is nice and tight.

Inside, the tall mirror is clear and surprisingly free of the hazing you expect with older compacts. Below are the powder and rouge compartments. The rouge tin is full of pale pink unused rouge and the powder well has a lovely ivory sifter shaped the same way as the compact, with a wide and narrow end. It\'s topped with very soft thick pale ivory suede and has an ivory satin lifter. The exquisite matching puffs are topped with yellowy gold satin faille and edged in ivory satin. Both have little ivory satin lifters and are in lovely clean condition.

If you\'re a fan of the sophisticated elegance of the late Art Deco period, this is definitely a compact you should consider!
