~ 1940 ADMIRAL BAKELITE TUBE RADIO - MODEL 396-6M ~

For your consideration is another rare gem offered to you from theRadio-Cafe.This incredible1940 Admiral bakelite tube radio, Model 60XA2, has beenfully restored inside & outto excellent playing condition just waiting for a new owner. The cabinet has that classic \"bullet\" design that Admiral is well known for on many of their models, BUT...what makes this one very rare on this particular version of the bullet... it comes withpreset push buttons, brassescutcheon, AM & SW bands, 3 knobs with a \"variable\" tone knob, a reverse painted(dark red & gold) glass(not plastic) dial scale, and a powerhouse 6 tube chassis for better reception than your average AA5.

Continental Radio & Television Corp was founded in 1934 andmanufactured some of the best radios back then, and then later became Admiral Corp. Their sales in 1939 ranked 5th and the Admiral name was soon well known all over andsponsoredmany shows through the CBS radio network during WWII. Their slogan was... \"America\'s Smart Set\". One look on the bottom of the early Admiral sets and you\'ll see the stamp C.R.& T.C., which this set has as well. I\'ve restored countless Admiral \"bullet\" sets of different variations over the years, but this is the first time ever finding this one.. a rare one indeed!

This original example is in beautiful condition with no chips or cracks and it plays as good as it looks on the AM(Broadcast) band. The SW band is only 1.7 to 3.5, so I was only able to tune in one station in my area. Besides the interior loop antenna, I\'ve included an extra long external wire for better reception in the country. This set also comes with a \"variable\" tone knob so you have a full range of hi & lo to suite your audio taste. The larger knob on the right side is for tuning and it also comes with 4 preset push button knobs in front that work great after I went through and cleaned and lubricated the entire mechanical assembly. The reverse painted dial glass really looks nice with the soft red numbers lighting up as well as the evenly glow on the back scale. I\'ve included 17 individual pics showcasing the cosmetic and electrical restoration for your viewing pleasure.

The lightly marbled dark chocolate bakelitecabinet has beenprofessionally polished with my ALL natural processusing NO car polish wet look tricks, caked ongunk, sprays, poly coats, saturation tactics to make the bakelite appear darker,or any other artificial enhancers. My photos represent the accurate bakelite color in different lighting with NO software touch ups!It takes many hours through several stages to complete this natural process but when it\'s all said and done what you get is a pure natural bakelite shine. I go the extra mile and make sure every square inch is cleaned using special hand-made pic tools, toothbrushes, and Q-tips(no black sharpie marker tricks used here folks). I\'ve been doing natural bakelite polishing the same way for over 30 years now and do notcut corners or take short cuts with my cleaning & polishing method.. nothing but lots of time and plenty of elbow grease.

Ifyou\'re more of a purist collector of antiques and prefer an AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE RESTORATION approach, then we have something in common. No crazy \"catalin type\" paint jobs, cosmetic enhancers,or car salesman oldphonyradiodazegimmicks,... justoriginal antique restorationfor theTRUEcollector!

This hard to find Admiral set is ready to be displayed and played!

Keep in mind, this antique vacuum tube radio is not a boom box, solid state radio,or any other modern type radio. It uses vacuum tube technology which can produce audio interference caused by many different things such as florescent lighting, energy saving bulbs, kitchen appliances,etc,etc... so placement of the radio is very important to avoid any possible audio interference. And like many other electronic devices,.. when not in use the radio should be unplugged to prevent any damage during electrical storms.

~ RADIO-CAFE~

I\'ve been collecting & restoring tube radios since 1987,and have sold well over 2000 tube radios worldwide with over 1000 radio photos in my extensive gallery on file! Many of my restored radios are displayed in museums,on international radio websites, and published in popular radio books. Unlike many who perform the quick and lesser quality restorations just in order to sell more,... myphilosophy is alwaysquality before quantityand as a result the buyer receives a radio that has been restored with the utmost finer details in mind.

I spent 20 years as a Machine Specialist in the Aerospace & Injection Molding fields. Having this type of background has given me theexperience & high standardsthat I try to maintain in my radio restoration work as well. My experience includes: AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE RESTORATION,custom wood refinishing, allnatural bakelite polishing, electronic restoration, andradio dial cover molding. With my radio descriptions you get a factual description and I prefer to stay away from the sugar coated phrases such as... \"stunner\",\"near mint\",\"normal age related wear\",\"doesn\'t get any better\",\"completely flawless\",\"best of the best,\"unmolested\",\"mint\",\"glowing mirror finish\"(does a finish actually glow? LOL). The Radio-Cafe lets our quality workmanship and high standards do the talking for us and NOT the \"pump & dump\" old daze sales tactics you may see from others.

A special thanks to all of my customers and fellow radio restorers who I\'ve had the pleasure of doing business with throughout the last 25 years and to all of our service men & women who I proudly support in helping to keep this great country free!It gives me great satisfaction to be able to bring these wonderful antique tube radios back to life for future generations to enjoy!

Thanks for looking and mayGod Bless our Troops serving around the world!
