DESCRIPTION----- . Here we have a rare and Important Gorham Sterling silver ca.1900 Universal Exposition special order massive Tea kettle urn with original burner with hairy paw feet. This came from Nicholas Colella who purchased this from the former manager of Gorham. Colella was a famous Dealer and collector. This was said to have been exhibited at the Universal Exposition in Paris ca.1900 along with other larger and smaller pieces. This is signed in two placed with Gorham Special order three letter mark "JAK" which most who collect Gorham seriously that this is the Special order mark and would only be made for a prominant client or the company themselves such as an Exposition. I do believe Nicholas who did state this was from the company directly purchased in the 1950's as their personal collection. This has incredible long hairy paw feet that turn into columns and incredible hand chased work with Ball feet sitting upon a round plinth. The original burner is present and there is no cracks or breaks or dents anywhere. No burn marks. This was definitely meant for show, but holds water and when the valve is shut not a drop comes out. I filled it to the top with water and not a drop came out. Standing almost 17" tall at 16 1/2 x 10 1/2 from handle to handle. Weighing a massive 85.8 regular ounces of sterling silver or 2405 grams. This piece is appraised 3-5 times the ounce value. The last special order piece sold here on for over $10,000.00 and you will not see another example like this again. The piece has three areas where there are Gorham company marks and sterling. On the very bottom is marked. Above the burner and on the burner. Very important because they rarely marked a piece three times like this. There was a full provenance with the piece, when Nick had it but the family said it would stay with the estate rider.
